Le Due Valli and the Valli del Mezzano

The Ferrara region, located in the Po Valley, is geometrically defined by the courses of the Po and Reno rivers and the coastline that stretches between their mouths.

In its southeastern part lies the Mezzano, a historically significant area that about 2000 years ago was covered by oak forests.

This region was later flooded by river and sea waters, forming the Valle del Mezzano in the 16th century—a brackish inland lagoon of about 18,000 hectares.

Reclamation in this area began in earnest only in 1957 with “The Great Reclamation of the Valle del Mezzano,” which lasted about a decade and radically transformed the landscape.

This transformation process made the land fertile for agriculture, which characterizes the territory today.

The main current crops include tomatoes, cereals, soy, and corn—all products distinguished by unique organoleptic characteristics provided by the territory.

Organic farming is gaining importance, supported by initiatives such as those of Le Due Valli, which promote environmentally friendly organic cultivation.
